Safety Information

Troop 70 and the Boy Scouts of America, work to provide the highest level of safety to the members of the organization. We work together to ensure the safety of all of our members and participants, through written and enforced guidelines, background checks, and safety protocols. In order to ensure the safety of all Scouts, Troop 70 has further taken the rules and regulations of the Scouting Program, to increase them to better suit the needs of our Troop. Please review the sections below to find specific information regarding Safety of our Scouts.

Adult Volunteers:

ALL volunteers who are over the age of 18 are required to complete an “Adult Application”, this application includes a criminal background check. In addition all Adults who are involved in the program, must complete a Youth Protection Training. This training is required before the adult is allow to work near Scouts or become active in the program. During all activities, we emphasis a two-deep leadership. This mean whenever is an adult present, there must always be another adult with them.

In addition, while on Camping Trips, sleeping areas of Scouts and Adults are clearly defined and it is clearly understood that Adults and Scouts must not come in contact to each others sleeping areas, as it is a violation of our Safety Guidelines and practices. While at Troop meetings, there is never any time when Scouts and Adults are together with only one scout and one adult. Troop 70 works to set the highest safety guidelines, which prevents unsupervised adult interaction with Scouts.

Scout Leaders:

The Boy Scouts of America, is a program that is “Youth-Led”, this mean that all programs and activities are managed, and overseen by “Youth”. The term youth in the Boy Scouts of America, means a “Boy aged eleven to eighteen”. Troop 70 works to ensure the safety of all Scouts and Well-being by promoting “Trained Leaders” that work in a structured environment. Troop 70 leaders understand that there are strict guidelines, that they must follow. These guidelines include, but are not limited to; Hazing/Bulling Prevention, Youth Safety/Welling Being Practices, and General Rules and Regulations. Scouts are never in a situation where there is less than three (3) people present and all our our Youth Leaders are monitored by our “Core Leadership”.

Emergency Incidents:

In the event of an emergency, Troop 70 has trained Scouts, that are ready to respond. In addition, Troop 70 works to foster safety guidelines, that will allow us to respond efficiently. In the event of an emergency, Troop 70 leaders will be under the direct guidance and control of The Senior Patrol Leader/Scoutmaster, who will work together to act as incident commanders. Scouts will be moved to a safe location, and will be accounted for by their patrol leaders, who will relay the information back to the Senior Patrol Leader. Parents will be contacted immediately, when information is available.

Abuse, Bullying, and/or Assault:

Troop 70 instills in our youth, that they are expected to follow all guidelines and rules set by the Troop and the Boy Scouts of America. In the event of noted abuse, Bullying or Assault, Troop 70 will immediately work to solve the situation. We will work to eliminate the situation and stop the issue right from the start. We will then work to prevent the problem in the Future. In the event there are any problems with Scouts, our Youth Leaders and Adult Leaders, are required to report this information to our Scoutmaster/Senior Patrol Leader. The Scoutmaster/Senior Patrol Leader, will work to resolve the problem and work to contact parents and submit a referral to the Troop Committee.
