SPL Message to Parents

Dear Parents,

Troop 70 is an eighty-two year old organization that prides itself as being an example setter and an explearary troop that lives out the Scout Oath and the Scout Law in all activities, meetings, and trips. When choosing an organization to allow your son to participate, it is very important to see what exactly the organization is trying to accomplish and what they offer for all of their members. In addition, it is very important to learn about the health and safety practices of the organization.
Troop 70 is a forward thing organization that prides itself to always be one-step ahead and always working to set an example of positive leadership at work. As Senior Patrol Leader, I work with all of the leaders in our Troop both adult and young men, to work as an effective team that works to bring an outstanding program to our members.
Henceforth, I would like to share with you some key factors that will illustrate to you the values taught and instilled by our organization. Troop 70 works with young men aged eleven to eighteen to teach them skills that will help them the rest of their lives. Skills such as first aid, communications, and leadership. While maintaing a high educational aspect, Troop 70 believes we can achieve this through innovative and interesting activities, that are held in a safe environment. To enhance the learning process Troop 70 believes, that we should work with all learning styles; auditory, visual, and kinetic, this is achieved by teaching skills to Scouts and then applying them and working with them in real life. For example, we may teach Scouts how to canoe, this involves a visual and auditory presentation/lesson, followed by a hands-on experience where Scouts, led by an older instructor, will be able to try to canoe and learn a new skill.
Finally, I would like to leave you with some key points that are very important to mention. Troop 70 and The Boy Scouts of America, prides itself as being an organization that puts safety and security first. All volunteers 18 years of age and older must pass through a background check, and must complete a youth protection course. In addition there are strict policies on Adult/Scout interactions and the roles/responsibilities of all adult leaders. In addition, Troop 70 follows very strict safety guidelines, that promote the well-being of all Scouts both Physically and Mentally. As a Trained Leader in Troop 70, I work with all Scouts to make sure that they fell comfortable and safe in the environment that Troop 70 promotes. We are a very open organization that always welcome opinions, suggestions, and feed back. Please consider making the choice of allowing you son to join our Troop. We will work to instill positive values and lessons to become a part of his mindset.

Yours in Scouting,

Mark
Senior Patrol Leader
